Anatolia is an ancient name for this province and comes from a Greek word meaning “the East.” It includes most of today’s Turkey.
Boundaries
North: Dardanelles, Sea of Mamara, Bosporus, then Black Sea east to the mouth of the Coruh River.
To the north: Hellas and, across the Black Sea, Slavia.
East: Coruh, Euphrates, and Orontes rivers.
To the east: Incognita (Persia).
South: the Mediterranean Sea (from the Orontes to the Datça Peninsula).
To the south: the East and, across the Mediterranean Sea, Egypt.
West: the Aegean Sea (from the Datça Peninsula to the Dardanelles)
To the west: Hellas.
