The Triunity of God

One critical affirmation of Scripture is that God is one. The name of the one God revealed in Scripture is Yahweh or Lord. God's divinity or nature is this lordship. There is only one God, and God alone is truly Lord, because only God is absolutely free in relation to all else.

Scripture also attests that this one God has distinct if interrelated ways of being God. In the New Testament, the threefold name given to the God who exists in only this threefold way is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Between God’s first and second way of being, a relationship exists which is analogous to that of a father and son. God’s third way of being relates to his first and second ways as one which proceeds from both.
